Almost Perfect: A Closer Look at Kurt Warner's Gem
Summary: Given his stellar numbers Sunday, why didn’t Kurt Warner achieve a perfect quarterback rating? And will the game put him over the top as a Hall of Fame candidate?
The blog goes on to answer three questions:
1. Given his numbers, why didn’t Warner achieve a perfect quarterback rating (158.3)?
2. Was this the best QB performance of the season?
3. Did this game lock up Warner’s enshrinement in Canton?

Interesting article on Warner and the limits of passer rating. I've never understood why a QB's performance is "capped" at 158.3. (I understand the formula, just not why it's used.) Your examples that throwing a few more 10-yard TD passes would have actually lowered Warner's rating was a great highlight of the absurdity of the current system.
I'd like to see third down conversions measured in, weighted for distance. I'd also like to see TD passes changed to percentage of passing yards to total yards in scoring drives. Under this format, I'd also include rushing yards. Say a team drives 80 yards for a TD and the QB throws for 50 yards and runs for 10. He'd receive 75% of the scoring credit factored in somehow.
Interesting work again.
